Trailer Analysis 3 --- Divergent

Trailer analysis 3 - Divergent

Divergent is an action, adventure and sci-fi movie. the very beginning of the trailer shows the setting of where the movie begins, we don't know the actual location but we can tell its in the countryside from all the fields and very little population.  the first two characters we see are two women, one probably being a mother the other her daughter. the daughter is being prepared for a special occasion as she is getting her hair tied up and pinned, they also have a discussion abut the day. the setting then changes to the city and we can now tell that this movie is set in the future, and that the mother and daughter are actually probably poor compared to how everyone else is dressed. when getting to around a minute of the trailer we know the young women is the main character and we following her story and journey. we still don't really know what is happening apart from all of the population is separated into different groups. they have to take a test to show what group they go to. we see our main go into the test thinking she is just like everyone else. but what makes her special is how the test doesn't work on her and this happened to very few people. they call it 'Divergent' hence the movie title. we know understand the meaning of the movie title and understand on why she is our main character. there is very little on screen text in the trailer but we do find out ,from on screen text, that this movie is 'based on the worldwide bestseller' so it was a novel before a film. we then meet the next main character, a male who is in charge of training these unique people. we don't find out his name. but we do see that they fall in love in through the trailer. hes not actually too convinced that she should be here and uses her almost like a 'guinea pig' testing her to see how week/strong she actually is. After him very closely chopping her ear off we see she starts to really fight. as much as she doesn't want to she does start to get very close and in love with him after seeing what he really wants to be because of his tattoos 'brave, and selfless, and intelligent, and honest, and kind' instead of just one thing in life we see that she really cares for him. we then see more on screen text, the date of when the film comes out 'march 21' now coming to the end of the trailer we see her as a new person she has been through her training and now a lot more confident, not as quiet and innocent as she was at the start and has changed a look. instead of her weak ways of fighting before we know see her punching and fighting some really tough guys, and she doing a lot more practical things like flying off a building and jumping onto a train. we also see her kissing the main male character so we know they become in love through the movie, but we also see her her struggles through the trailer including her crying and struggling to escape. the trailer ends with Divergent Title and logos behind the text and then the next frame is of the date again of when he movie comes out, where you can book tickets, social media links and the official website. there is instrumental music in the background which speeds up as the trailer goes and as she evolves into this new person. as the music speeds up, the quicker the video changes. to different footage. at the start we see maybe 10 seconds of a scene at a time, by the end of the trailer we see maybe around 2 - 3 seconds of a scene. the music is also perfevtly timed to the footage. an example would be coming to the end of the footage she punches a man twice and when she makes the punch the music makes a dramatic sound as she punches this puts on more of an effective on the viewer. there is no main narrative over the video but you do hear the characters talking from the movie over diffrents parts of footage. When the character is talking it will not be the footage from when they talk but it will be footage that is about what they are talking about. for example when one of the main charcters says 'divergent's threaten the system' we dont just see her talking but the divergents preparing for war. the target audience for the film is for teens, 13 and over, adults would enjoy it aswell though. its aimed for the younger generation because, the main characters are still young adults aswell that are just finding love and finding their way and so teens can relate to that.
